Twelve Killed and Over 300 Injured in Attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport
The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia reported early Sunday that 12 people were killed and 309 others injured following an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which also caused significant infrastructure damage.
According to the authority, the deceased included four Saudi nationals and eight foreign residents, specifically citizens from Bangladesh, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan. The injured, whose conditions range from moderate to critical, are currently receiving medical treatment at various hospitals throughout the capital.
In response to the security breach, the authority suspended all operational activities at the airport on Saturday as a precautionary measure. The incident occurs amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing concerns regarding frequent attacks on Saudi Arabia’s critical infrastructure and civilian facilities, which are widely attributed to Houthi forces utilizing ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
International reactions have been swift, with former U.S. President Donald Trump indicating that Washington is evaluating potential responses to the Houthi-led offensive. He confirmed that the United States is closely monitoring the situation on the ground and will determine an appropriate course of action following a comprehensive assessment of the security developments.
